Octavia Estelle Butler (22. júní 1947 - 24. feb. 2006) var bandarískur rithöfundur.
Í æsku var hún var óhemju feimin og óörugg,[1] og lesblinda gerði skólavist erfiða.[2] Því eyddi hún miklu af tíma sínum á bókasafni borgarinnar þar sem hún hélt mest upp á ævintýri en kynntist vísndaskáldsögum sem urðu að lokum aðal lestrarefnið. Hún skrifaði ýmislegt í minnisbók,[2] og 10 ára byrjaði hún að skrifa fyrstu sögurnar. Þegar hún var 18 ára seldi hún fyrstu smásöguna.[2]
