Make a general shifting of the stove and greenhouse plants, and cut them intoform as they have done flowering. Strike Pinks by pipings, and towards the end of the month layer Carnations.Sow biennials for flowering next season. Plant fresh beds of Pansies ; cut in those that have done flowering, and alsoput in cuttings to keep up a succession of young plants. Look over the more rare kinds of herbaceous plants, either dividing or puttingin cuttings of those which are in danger of being lost from getting too old andworn out, and which could not be divided in Spring. Many of the more rare Alpine plants may also be divided and re-potted afterthey have done flowering. Annuals may still be sown for flowering late in the Autumn. It is now a good time for laying the young wood of Clematises and other plantsthat root best from the young wood.
